So far Apple has been assembling its iPhone 6S and SE in Bengaluru plant of India, but now the company will start to manufacture iPhone 7 also in India. The company has joined hands with the Taiwan-based company Wistron for this manufacturing which will look at the production within India. This is being done through the production "Made in India" campaign.
Indian customers are not seen to have any benefits from this production as the company has said that despite not doing it in India, production of iPhone 7 will not reduce its price. The use of this margin will be done in advertisements and sales. With the production of this phone, the company will remain stable for the long term. Also, due to the making of the Made in India campaign, the company will also have to pay the less duty fee in the manufacturing price of this phone.
To increase this production in India, Wistron has been given an investment amount of Rs 5 Crore. With this investment amount, the company will also manufacture Apple's high-end devices in India.
The latest launched Apple devices have not been liked in India, which has reduced the company's share in the smartphone industry. According to the report, Apple's iPhone devices were 20% lower in 2018 to compare it with 2017. Its main reason was high prices. Counterpoints Head Neil Shah told that Apple had supplied 4 lakh units in the 4th quarter of 2018 in India, while comparatively OnePlus supplied 5 lakh units in India. Above all, Apple supplied 32 lakhs of iPhone units in India in 2017.
In the past, India has become a good hub for the smartphone industry. So, all the smartphone companies are interested to sell more and more smartphones in India. But the price of Apple's latest devices seems to be much higher because of which the company seems to be losing its market shares. Telecom Research Firm Tech arc said in the report that in 2019, 30 Crore phones can be sold in India, which includes 14.9 Crore smartphones, 9.8 Crore feature phones and 5.5 Crore smart-feature phones.
The Wall Street Journal said in its report that in India, the Apple devices has to go through at least 5 mediators to reach this customer. Where everyone has their own margin fix. In addition, our country's tax policy is also one reason to make iphone costly.
